Overview

Qabb Ilyas

is a municipality in Zahle District, in eastern Lebanon. Qabb Ilyas is 15 kilometers from Zahleh and 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the Lebanese capital Beirut. Its average elevations is 950 meters above sea level. Its area is approximately 32 km². Qabb Ilyas is the third-largest city in the Beqaa Valley, after Zahleh and Baalbek in terms of area size and geography

The Haidara ruins are believed to date back to the Roman era. According to local legend, there was once a mirror on the face of the building that used to reflect sunlight down into the village, related to sun-worshiping Roman practices

Aammiq  wetland

is the largest remaining freshwater wetland in Lebanon, a remnant of much more extensive marshes and lakes that once existed in the Bekaa Valley.

It has been designated an Important Bird Area in the Middle East (BirdLife International, 1994), is included in the Directory of Wetlands in the Middle East (IUCN, 1995), was declared Ramsar Convention site number 978 in 1999, and most recently (2005) was designated

Kamid al-Loz

An Ancient Capital in the Beqaa ell at Kamid al-Loz turned out to be of great importance because buried at this one site were occupation levels that began 7,000 years ago with Neolithic or Stone Age people and continued through the Persian Period in the 4th century BC.

Nearby is a stone quarry that was used by the stonemasons who constructed Anjar, an important city built on the orders of Omayyad Caliph Al-Walid I in the early 8th century. Today the quarries of Kamid el-Loz still bear traces of writing left during this construction.

Anjar

Founded during the Umayyad period under Caliph Walid Ibn Abd Al-Malak (705-715), the city of Anjar bears outstanding witness to the Umayyad civilization.

Anjar is an example of an inland commercial center, at the crossroads of two important routes: one leading from Beirut to Damascus and the other crossing the Bekaa and leading from Homs to Tiberiade

Taanayel

Located southeast of Chtaura, just a few kilometers from Zahle, is the pretty village of Taanayel. With its bountiful farms, breathtaking scenery, and vineyards, Taanayel is a true haven that can be visited any time during the year.
