Also known as the “Holy Valley”, Kadisha Valley houses some of the most important early Christian monastic settlements in the world and has been a place of refuge for those fleeing religious persecution since the 5th century. High above the Kadisha Valley and the red-roofed village of Bcharreh are the ancient cedars of Lebanon. They were highly prized in ancient times for their use in the construction of great palaces and religious buildings. Nowadays, the Cedars tree, majestic and indestructible, is the emblem of Lebanon and adorns its flag.
